Curious and Modern Inventions

Drawing on the research of director Rebecca Cypess (see her book, Curious and Modern Inventions) this program illustrates the close connections between the revolutionary instrumental music of early seventeenth-century Italy and broader cultures of technology and conceptions of instruments in the age of Galileo. The program includes music by Biagio Marini, Carlo Farina, Dario Castello, and Girolamo Frescobaldi.
